Not taking advantage of pointing in cricket is just silly. Too many times I run into people who say they don't point 'unless they have to' and to me that's like saying "I don't buy a fire extinguisher unless I have a fire".....really?

Too often I watch good players lose because they get behind on points by trying to 'backclose' against their opponent who then smacks them with a 9 in the next number. Truth is, if I'm honest, I smile when someone back closes a number on me instead of trying to maintain their point lead because I know RIGHT THEN AND THERE that I can beat them. My confidence goes up, I stare down the next triple inline (which so often seems like it's the 16 for some reason) and plant 3 darts in and/or right around the triple racking up more points knowing that they are now down too far to easily overcome.

Since playing soft, where I always thought everyone pointed, I've been surprised by how many don't. But I smile, hit 5 20's to open the game and say to myself quietly "go ahead, backclose the 20 so I can do the same thing again on the 19".....and if they let me that's when I start looking to close other numbers.

Last night after Daniel and I got up 100 points on our opponents on the 20's they took one dart to try to close the 20 instead of hitting more points....I followed with T19, T18, T17 and the game was pretty much over right there.

NEVER back close when down on points or even close! Point up, point often and then when you are comfy in your lead close their numbers.

Or lose more often than not.

At least that's my experience after many years of competing.

To make things worse there are some people who seem to think it is somehow poor sportsmanship to point in cricket.
What utter nonsense, as I doubt they would say the same thing if someone was throwing 140s in a 01 game...

In my mind I just look at points as bonus bulls eyes. Smile

I have made this point often! Is a 180 poor sportsmanship in 01?

Played a guy online yesterday who was shooting well and decided to start on the 15s cuase he thought I wasn't a good shot Wink I'd just had a very bad game hitting one segment over and guess he decided I couldn't hit shat.

I opened with 3 20's, he closed the 15....I hit 7 20's :d He closed 16's (musta thought it was a fluke)...I hit T20, T19, T18.......he started using the 17 to try to catch up but it didn't work Very Happy

He with the most points wins! Every time.
