I was thinking today about Bob's 27 and how I practice Cricket and came up with a new practice game. Try this one Wink I call it 'Erik's 9' but you could call it 'Cricket 9' too I suppose.

Like Bob's 27 you throw all three darts at the following and in sequence:

    20
    19
    18
    17
    16
    15
    Bull

Each Triple and the Double Bull is worth 3 points You start with 9 points and each time you miss a triple (or the Double Bull) you deduct 3 points (for the throw, not each dart). You must finish with a positive number to win. Any time you drop to zero you lose and must start over.

Max score is 70 (9+63). Min score is 3.

    Example: Start with 9 points.

Throw 3 darts at the T20 -- miss with all three (doesn't matter where) deduct 3 points -- score is now 6
Throw 3 darts at the T19 -- hit one, miss with the other 2 -- add 3 points -- score is not 9
Throw 3 darts at the T18 -- miss all three -- deduct 3 -- score is now 6...

Continue until you drop to 0 or complete the round with a positive score.

I lost the next two attemps on the 16 after missing the T20 (down to 6) the T19 (down to 3) then hit the T18 once (up to 6), missed the T17 (down to 3) and missed the 16 -- zero.

Finally I missed the T20 (down to 6), hit the T19 once (up to 9), missed the T18 (down to 6), missed the T17 (down to 3) hit two T16's (up to 9), hit the T15 once (up to 12) and hit the DB once (score at finish was 15).

I imagine the very best can hit 42 but I'd be surprised if anyone can hit better than that!

    Start with 9...
    T20 - 0 = -3 (6 remaining)
    T19 - 1 = +3 (9)
    T18 - 1 = +3 (12)
    T17 - 3 = +9 (21)
    T16 - 0 = -3 (1Cool
    T15 - 1 = +3 (21)
    DB - 0 = -3 (1Cool

Scored an 18 Smile Should have hit the three I missed! Darn it.

    Any questions?

Currently I'm hitting a lot in the 6 to 12 range with the occasional loss and occasional 12-15...

You MUST hit either one T20, T19 or T18 just to get to the T17 so it forces you to hit at least one of those and either one 17 or 16 to keep going...

Takes hitting about 25% to get to 15-18....at 33% you should be able to finish around 30....

Takes at least 14.3% on the triples to complete the game with 3 to 6 points (that is a minimum of 3 triples - or two trips and one DB in 21 darts).

It takes 4 triples or 19% to get 9 to 12,

    23.9% for 15 to 18 and 28.6% to make 21 to 24

2nd 9 mark of the day and still only finished with a 6.....I think I like this game. To score well requires hitting the trips -- period. Full Stop.

I would say yes. The possible highscore is 9 + 63. And 63 you can only reach with 7 * 9 Points (=3 treble hits per target).

I played it for a while last night. It is a pretty tough practice routine. I finished with 21 points twice. Mostly I was in the 6 to 12 range when I actually made it to the end. I had several legs that never made it past 16.

My nephew is just getting into darts. He's really been bitten by the dart bug. I sent him this practice routine. Since he's just starting out, I edited the rules a little for him. I told him if he gets all 3 darts in the bed he's aiming for, even if they're all singles, he still gets the 3 points, but all 3 have to be in that number and if one of the 3 is a triple you still only get 3 points (not 6).

He was still struggling a bit, but by adding that minor rule adjustment for the beginner, he was at least able to make it to the bulls a few times and even finished with a 3 and a 6 on a game or two. I think without it, he would have gotten frustrated and just went back to random throwing.

Truthfully I started that way but found it was too easy for advanced players and changed to trips only.

We can call that the novice version Smile

Ran a few times through today...died on the 18 three times before finally picking it up a little and hitting 9 a few times....this is not a forgiving practice! ha!

Averaging a little better than me lately as I've been hitting around 9 most times with a high of 24...

Tough bloody game to score well in I say! hahaha -- one thing I like is that you MUST hit at least one of the first 3 trips or you lose and in big tournaments it pretty darn tough to come back (if not impossible nearly) after missing all of those....can be done, I've done it, but it's very hard against a top player.

I agree. I gave it another try this morning. My high today was 18, but at least I never went to 0. My low score was 6. I like this game. I will keep doing this until I get to 30 or better.

I find that once I get warmed up I manage to say in the 6-12 range until I really start to get serious then I start to hit in the 12-18 range with the occasional 21 (and the other day the 24)....it is a damn challenge.

yesterday I had 21 by the 18....then missed the 17, 16 and 15...I was SO pissed!!

    Another 21 -- lots of 4's and 5 marks to get there....just a few I only hit singles...probably a 30+ on CCU if I had counted.

2nd run through for the day and happy with it Smile Might get time for a few more to see if I can get past the darn 24 mark!

I think CraigB should add this to the practice rankings!

Two more 21's today and a lot of cussing! Seems everytime I get close I miss something I shouldn't.

This is an aggravating practice! lol At one point I was at 27 (2 T20's, 3 T19's, 1 T18) then I just squandered it and finish at 18....

Had mixed results last night. My 3 high scores were 27, 24, 18. My 3 low scores were, 3, 3, 3. My in between scores were, 12, 9, 6, 6. I really want to hit that elusive 30 mark, but the way I am throwing now, it seems impossible, lol.
