OK . . . Blackhorse encouraged me to do this. You are all in trouble now.
I posted this . . .
I am sure that it is here SOMEWHERE. But at the risk of sounding lazy . . . can someone please tell me what brings you up in the ranks? What are the various ranks and the levels to achieve them?
I need a 2008 New Year’s resolution. I think reaching a new ranking at SEWA would be an obtainable goal. It would at least be a resolution that I would actually WANT to accomplish!
Blackhorse responded . . .
How about this - start a thread in the General League Forum, call it the Punkin Patch, and tell us who don't know you or much about your area, a bit of your own history and of those in the region, plus the League set ups.
Who knows, you might start a regional Forum after a while. Your area of the country seems to have some great shooters and cool personalities.
The Topic start, and the subsequent posts will all increase your SEWA numbers.

Here’s to starting my New Year off with a bang . . .
It all started on a cold day in Houston . . . OK, NOT so cold (It was January!). My sister-in-law said, why don’t you come out to darts. I said, DARTS . . . What’s that? And that, my friends, is the start of this never ending story. I have said many times, I am not sure whether to curse her or kiss her for this. Although, I did meet my husband (Greg) because of her, so I am forever thankful to her for that!
She got me started in a beginner’s league. That was when a lot of the top Houston players were committed to bringing us beginners into the Houston Darts Association, the premier Houston association. These guys and ladies were dedicated to teaching mechanics, strategy, and love of the game. These players included Wayne Bush, Mike Cunningham, Dennis Aitken, Wade McDonald, Donna Detillion, and Betty Weed, just to name a few. I became addicted early to the fun and competitive nature of the game. Not to mention that it improved my math skills tremendously. LOL.
During my early years, I was fortunate to go to the Houston tournaments (the Bluebonnet and the Houston Open) and see some of the best players in darts; Rick Ney, Paul Lim, John Part, Chad Sylvan, Katy Hopkins, Sandy Ratan(Green), Lori and Gerald Verrier, Stacy Bromberg, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc.
As time passed, I progressed through the various league levels; C, B, B+, A-, A). I was so very fortunate to play with or against Daryl Montgomery, Donny Joe, Patrick Simien, Rick Stephenson, Dieter Schutsch, Hilary Simon, Kathy Podraza, and Gwen Olds; and all from my own league/town. WOW!
You would think that with Houston being the 4th largest city in the U.S., that our organization would be HUGE. Unfortunately, that is not the case. I was on our BOD for 10+ years (as Public Relations and then as President) and I’ve watch our association go from over 1000 members to 400+ members now. I started in 1990 . . .
It took me MANY years to get it . . . I finally did. I was the Houston Women’s City Singles Champion in 2003. I won my first singles event in Austin (301) in 2007. My partner, Hilary Simon (MissSunshine), and I took 2nd in Women’s Doubles 501 in Austin in 2007. We also won the Texas Ladies League. 2007 was a VERY good year.
OK . . . this has been a VERY long post. What I am hoping to start is many fold:
• Get Houston Darters to participate SEWA
• Get SEWA members from Houston to keep this post going with their opinions, their accomplishments; their ideas . . .
• Get other players to tell us their stories . . .
• To let others know who are hesitant to post on SEWA . . . that ANYONE can and SHOULD post. You NEVER KNOW who you might encourage, help, or entertain along the way.
OK, I’m done for now. I hope that this has reached someone along the way. I am Punkin and I AM a Dart Player. _________________ “The healthiest competition occurs when average people win by putting forth above average effort.” Colin Powell.

Seriously, this is an excellent addition that Punkin is making to SEWA, and a terrific way to start the New Year here. Certain people have a presence online and Punkin is definitely one of them.
I sincerely look forward to this becoming another great thread, even Forum, along the lines of the Elmwood Cafe at least.
Great reading, very interesting, lots of new stuff - and many Texans out there who can get involved to add to the Punkin Patch.
Who knows, the best contributor by Halloween might get named The Great Punkin!!! _________________ My darts were born of father's play, decades later to leagues then led.
Though others helped, I can safely say, my darting life is SEWA bred.
Had our HCDA Thursday League tonight. We were playing a team that was not to our caliber. However, a few of their players were up to the game. I beat the strongest player (Sun) in 301 singles. Hubby, Greg, although NOT playing to his ability . . . was able beat his opponents 2 straight in every game he played; took all of the outs. CBR was able to beat his opponents also, handily. We won the night! Woo Freekin Hoo!
I was VERY happy that my darts were more consistent in league than they have been in a few weeks. 78 out like I KNEW what I was doing. Double tops . . . like it was nothing. SEWA . . . watch out!
I AM THE MOST HAPPY that my hubby is all over me PLAYING MORE TOURNAMENTS. He believes IN ME!!!!!!! The most important part is . . . I BELIEVE IN ME. But getting his support is so HUGE!!!!!!!
OK, Houston Players . . . post. Tell me about your league. Tell me about how your team did and how you personally did.
I have a goal . . . I need your help. I WANT TO GET TO ANOTHER LEVEL. I am a Dart Corporal, don’t know what the next level is . . . BUT I WANT IT!!!!!! Post to Punkin Patch. POST AND POST OFTEN.
THANKS!!!!!
P.S. So . . . that being said, get ready to hear about PUNKIN. I AM going to be a force to be reckoned with. I AM Punkin . . . and I AM A DART PLAYER.
P.S.S. Bring it KopRalph . . . I'm ready for you! _________________ “The healthiest competition occurs when average people win by putting forth above average effort.” Colin Powell.

Good Job hubby
Congrats on the Sun win, She is a tough cookie to crack and congrats on getting the team win over them and revenge from week 1.
I still haven't gotten into stride this season. Week 4 and I am struggling with any consistency. Could be because we have team instability and have been playing with multiple subs. I am the only player to play every week lol, and its unlikely to change anytime soon. We are finally at home for the next 3 weeks so I am hoping we get some rhythm going. We bring a 4-0 record back to our bar so that feels nice. _________________ Kops League

Alrighty then . . . Woo Freekin Hoo!!!!!!! Punkin hit a T80 tonight. It was in practice, BUT I DON’T CARE! It was the first one I’ve hit in SOOOO long. Felt so good! Needless to say, I was so excited. It gave me LOTS of confidence going into the night. I ended up 8-3-3-6. (Wins, Losses, QPs, Win Points).
When off, I was able to refocus and hit. HUGE! Shot doubles cricket with MissSunshine and we shined! We complimented each so well. What I didn’t do, she did and what I didn’t do again, she DID! We were like a well oiled machine. Truly a team effort!
Singles Cricket . . . was behind in points, needed to close 15s BIG to be able to go for bulls. Hit T15, close and thirty, DB, SB to win! YES, all in one turn. OMG . . . it was such a good feeling. 2nd leg, had it all the way . . . he popped a 7 count on 17s to get him somewhat back in the game. I was able to point and had nothing but bulls left. Then it happened. Turn after turn, and NO bulls. Finally hit a DB and then . . . couldn’t find the single to save my life. Lucky for me . . . he couldn’t do what he needed to do to win. I was FINALLY able to hit it and take the match. Whew!!!!!!
We won the night. The team was on fire! Focus, determination, perseverance, and confidence. That is what it is ALL about.

Well done Punkin. Looks like you are on a roll. Yeh 180's are fun. Lets not forget that they tend to be a kiss of death during the games lol. Awesome with the 6 win points. Its nice to see you get going this season.
Hmm Db's and Sb's and trips and 180's why do they sound all too familiar to me LOL. Keep it up Punkin;) _________________ Kops League

Punkins team gave my team all we could handle and more. Despite the 2 sewaites just playing very sub par darts (who knows why?). Everyone else was having decent nights. Punkins and her teammate handed my wife and I a 2-0 butt kicking in the 501. With punkin taking out a great out in the second game. The whole night came down to the 1001 team game. And if it wasn't for consecutive T's by the wife to get us into the game. Punkins team would have come into the Mollys den and given us our first loss. Well done you lunatics. See you at your place next time.
BTW thanks for a fun night as usual _________________ Kops League

Thanks, KopRalph! You too!!!!! Hopefully, better than last week. Started good, but then took a trip in a hand basket to Hades! Looking for consistency. I'll be happy with consistently good! _________________ “The healthiest competition occurs when average people win by putting forth above average effort.” Colin Powell.

How did you do punkin?
We lost for the first time this week. Oh well. Had a very average night. I need a break, and dont plan on picking up a dart for a couple of weeks.

We won the night 17-14. Actually, played pretty well. Glad I have finally gotten my head out of where it shouldn't be and back to where it should be!
Sorry on your loss . . . glad for my team but sorry for your team. I know that you'll be back in action on the winning end in NO time!
Yeah, glad it is midseason break time. Might actually go play some soft tip that night! Who knows???? Stranger things have happened.
All the best!

We had our mid-season meeting tonight. That means that each team must have a representative present (or the team loses points). The HCDA goes over announcements, league ‘stuff’, discuss anything the teams have issues with, etc. Stats are given and then there is a singles tourney. The winner gets a polo shirt with the division they won and their name embroidered on it. At the end of the season, all of the division winners get to play against each other in a round robin.
Unfortunately, I was not able to make it tonight. Wondering if KopRalph was able to attend . . . My captain represented our team and hopefully . . . won the night.
Hey Kop . . .what happened?
This forum is NOT just for Houston players. Would love to hear about other member’s leagues and what they do. Please . . . PLEASE . . . join in and post your info.
Until next week . . . _________________ “The healthiest competition occurs when average people win by putting forth above average effort.” Colin Powell.

Hi Punkin,
DOnt think I know you, but since I know Ralph, I can help you get more rating points. Been awhile since I have been to Texas where I lived most of my life. Now living in Massachusetts playing in the MMDL league here. Lots of controversy and other things to many to mention, but did like taking the State Championship in the A league this year. And thats after taking second the last 2 seasons. Do miss Texas alot, especially the people and hospitality (for you Ralph) of my home state. I dont think I know you as I said before, but you can ask so many about me, like Ralph, Donny Joe(with whom I won a bullshoooter title with) Donnie R. and many others that may go unmentioned. And I do have to include my best friend Don Lamb. Best to you on your goals for the New Year. _________________ 2008 MMDL - A Division State Champs-Creegans

Punkin,
Your first mistake, was listening to BH. just kidding.
It's nice to hear of your successes in this sport, and that your hubby is behind you, more than before. I'm trying to get my wife to be more understanding, with my wanting to play darts. She has come a long way, and is really trying to be more understanding. I actually, almost had her coming to a tournament with me. It would have been the first time she has seen me play, and we have been together for 10 years.
Pssst, Punkin, I'll tell you a secret. Keep saying good things about me in your posts, and I will put in a good word for you with the Big Cheese.
Hey, I figured if you listened to BH, you might listen to me. _________________ Spring 2007 A State Champions Incredibles

You are the BEST Chitown!!!!!!!!! Can't think of ANYONE I would rather have post in Punkin Patch than you! How's that?
I met my hubby through darts, so he has no choice but to watch me! Course that means I have to watch him too!

Way to go David! He has been playing really good lately. Even if he can't see the board.
Always good to talk to Roger B. Never a dull moment with him around.
Way to go Wendy! I have been so happy to see her shooting so well. I remember when . . . she is so much better now. I always knew she had it in her! _________________ “The healthiest competition occurs when average people win by putting forth above average effort.” Colin Powell.
